Type Information: Basionym: Orbicula buelliae Dodge, B.A.N.Z. Antarctic Research Exped. 1929-1931, Reports, Ser. B, 7: 1-276[261] (1948).

Taxonomic Literature: Taxonomic notes: young spores often with thick and hyaline perispore which becomes pigmented and granulose, wall of fully mature spores thinner. Matzer et al., Bryologist 99(4): 450-456 (1996).

Biogeography: Continent: Antarctica and Northern America. Checklist records: Mexico.

Ecology: Biotroph; lichenicolous; endosubstratic.

Ascocarps: Perithecioid, not emerging (completely), soon sessile ("exposed"), (.08)-.1-.15-(.2) mm in diam.. Wall: Carbonized around the ostiole, lacking a clypeus ("peridium in section brown, darker and thickened in ostiolar region, composed of several layers of tangentially elongated cells). Margin: Black. Periphyses: Present (septate). Interascal Hyphae: Absent.

Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, 8-15 µm long, 6-9 µm wide; septa present; transversally septate (septum medial, not constricted at septum); wall middle brown, ornamented (finely scabrid).
