Biogeography: Continent: Africa, Asia-Temperate, Australasia, Europe, and Northern America.

Ecology: Biotroph; lichenized; substrate non-calciferous.

Thallus: Separate thallus parts thin or thick. Upper Surface: Pale grey; plane, smooth; epruinose; pruina scarce or abundant; blackish, greyish, bluish, greenish, yellowish, brownish, reddish, or whitish.

Ascocarps: Perithecioid, not emerging, becoming adnate to stipitate. Hymenium: 120-160 µm high.

Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, (16)-26-(32) µm long, (10)-16-(20) µm wide; 4-6-transversally septate; 1-3 longitudinal septa per transversal septum; wall middle brown, in Lugol's Solution negative.

Secondary Metabolites: Diploschistesic acid and lecanoric acid; of the following substance class(es): orcinol depsides, orcinol depsidones, ß-orcinol depsides, ß-orcinol depsidones, (higher) aliphatic acids, (tri-)terpenoids, benzyl esters, (anthra-)quinones, secalonic acids, amino acid derivatives, pulvinic acid derivatives, diphenyl ethers, and xanthones.
