Biogeography: Mediterranean; coastal. Continent: Northern America. Checklist records: Sonoran Desert and United States and Canada (continental).

Ecology: Biotroph; lichenized; corticolous; episubstratic; growing partially shaded; under conditions which are moist.

Thallus: Crustose, subdivided into main parts, rimose; separate thallus parts.4-1.4 mm wide. Thallus Outline: Soon disappearing. Upper Surface: Grey, matt, smooth; blastidiate.

Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Soon sessile, slightly constricted at the base, abundant, .6-.8 mm in diam.. Margin: Lecanorine, persistent, indistinct. Disk: Plane; black; epruinose. Parathecium (proper excipulum): 5-15 µm wide, white. Amphithecium (thalline excipulum): 50-90 µm high, 50-80 µm wide. Lower Amphithecium: Pseudoparenchymatous. Amphithecial Cortex: Present; 5-20 µm wide, 5-20 µm wide at the base. Epithecium: Apical cells brown. Hymenium: 75-100 µm high; gelatinized. Hypothecium: 40-60 µm high.

Asci: 50-60 µm long, 15-17 µm wide.

Ascospores: Dirinaria-type, c. 8 per ascus, (13)-16.8-17.2-17.6-(21.5) µm long, (7)-8.5-8.6-8.8-(10.5) µm wide; forming early during spore ontogeny (Physciaceae-type A) or late during spore ontogeny (Physciaceae-type B); wall ornamented.

Conidiomata: Present.

Conidiophores: Vobis-type I. Conidia: Bacilliform; 2.5-3 µm long; 1 µm wide.

Secondary Metabolites: Not detected.
