Ecology: Corticolous.

Thallus: Foliose, lobed; lobes linear or flabellate (irregularly); concave or usually plane; separate thallus parts 1-2 mm wide. Thallus Size and Differentiation: Up to 7 cm in diameter; apex not curved. Upper Surface: Grey, brown, or grey-brown; pruinose; pruina sometimes continuous or patchy; without hairs; not isidate; not sorediate; lobulate. Lower Surface: White in the centre, white along the margin; rhizinate; rhizines sparse or moderately abundant, black or white, branched, squarrosely branched.

Upper Cortex: Outer cortical layer paraplectenchymatous. Medulla: White. Lower Cortex: Present; prosoplectenchymatous, of periclinal hyphae.

Reproduction Strategy: Often only known as sterile, asexually reproducing form or with sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Sparse, up to 2.5 mm in diam.. Margin: Lobulate, smooth.

Ascospores: 28-33 µm long, 14-16 µm wide.

Secondary Metabolites: Not detected.

Spot Tests: Absent reactions.
