Upper Surface: Grey, brown, or grey-brown; pruinose; pruina usually abundant; continuous or sometimes patchy (especially on lobe ends); without hairs; not isidate; not sorediate; not lobulate or lobulate (irregular lobules occasional, sparse to rarely abundant). Lower Surface: Black or brown in the centre, white or pale brown along the margin; rhizinate; rhizines moderately abundant, black, branched, squarrosely branched.
Upper Cortex: Outer cortical layer paraplectenchymatous. Medulla: White. Lower Cortex: Present; prosoplectenchymatous, of periclinal hyphae.
Reproduction Strategy: Usually with sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Abundant, up to 3 mm in diam.. Margin: Often lobulate, smooth.
