Ecology: Lichenized; saxicolous (on smooth rock surfaces); growing under conditions which are moist.
Thallus: Foliose, irregular (irregularly to subdichotomously branched), lobed; lobes elongate or linear (sublinear), imbricate (or not); separate thallus parts.5-1.5-(2) mm wide. Thallus Size and Differentiation: 3-5 cm in diameter. Upper Surface: Lime green (lobe margins black), plane, glossy (shiny); fissurate (often with cracks); fissures transversely oriented oriented; immaculate; isidiate (numerous, coarse, short, appearing granulose; isidia apices epicorticate, erumpent into pustulate or coarsely subsorediate masses); isidia globular. Lower Surface: Present, black; attached by holdfasts (tightly adnate); rhizinate; rhizines moderately abundant, black, not branched.
Medulla: White.
Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Apothecioid, soon sessile, 1-3 mm in diam.. Margin: Smooth. Disk: Excavate, dark brown.
Ascospores: 6-9 µm long, 3.5-5.5 µm wide.
Conidiomata: Absent resp. not observed (not seen).
Secondary Metabolites: Present; norstictic acid (other secondary metabolites: connorstictic acid, +/-hypostictic acid (trace), +/- hyposalazinic acid (tace) and +/- constipatic acid (trace)) and usnic acid.
Spot Tests: Cortex: KC medulla: K + yellow changing to red, C , KC , PD + deep yellow.
UV-Fluorescence: Upper thallus surface (negative).
