Taxonomic Literature: Mycotaxon 29: 365 (1987).

Biogeography: Southern hemispheric. Continent: Australasia. Checklist records: Australia (relatively rare, in hinterland regions of S.A. and Qld).

Ecology: Lichenized; saxicolous; growing sun-exposed.

Thallus: Foliose (small foliose to subcrustose), irregular, lobed; lobes elongate or linear (to subirregular), horizontal; plane; separate thallus parts (.2)-.5-1 mm wide. Thallus Size and Differentiation: 2-4 cm in diameter. Upper Surface: Lime green (darkening to deep olive-brown or blackish in older lobes), matt; fissurate (older lobes becoming cracked and often forming areolae 0.2-05 mm wide in thallus centre; areoloae appearing as fragmentary lobules in poorly developed specimens); not convoluted; isidiate (dense, small (0.1-0.2 mm), fragile); isidia cylindrical, not ramified or ramified, sparse, darkened at the tip (isidia apices brown, syncorticate and solid); not sorediate. Lower Surface: Present, pale brown (pale tan); attached by holdfasts (very tightly adnate); rhizinate (robust); rhizines sparse, pale brown (concolorous with lower surface), not branched.

Medulla: White.

Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages (but rare, subpedicellate). Ascocarps: Up to 4 mm in diam.. Margin: Persistent, indistinct (entire); isidiate (densely isidiate). Disk: Excavate (weakly concave, becoming flat or +/- undulating), brown or dark brown.

Ascospores: 7-9 µm long, 4-5 µm wide.

Conidiomata: Absent resp. not observed (not seen).

Secondary Metabolites: Present; usnic acid (other secondary metabolites: scabrosin 4,4'-dibutyrate, scabrosin 4-acetate 4'-butyrate, scabrosin 4-acetate 4'-hexanoate and +/- scabrosin 4,4'-diacetate).

Spot Tests: Cortex: KC – medulla: K –, C –, KC –, PD –.

UV-Fluorescence: Upper thallus surface – (negative).
