Biogeography: Northern hemispheric (Southern hemispheric). Continent: Australasia. Checklist records: Australia (very rare, endemic, south-western W.A.).

Ecology: Lichenized; saxicolous.

Thallus: Foliose, irregular, lobed; lobes elongate or linear (sublinear), imbricate (or not); separate thallus parts 1-2-(3) mm wide. Thallus Size and Differentiation: 5-6 cm in diameter. Upper Surface: Lime green (darkening, lobe margins often blackened, particularly towards apices), plane or concave (slightly concave), glossy (shiny) (at least near lobe apices), smooth; immaculate; isidiate (dense, apices syncorticate and intact); isidia cylindrical, not ramified or ramified (occasionally becoming branched), sparse; not sorediate; lobulate (occasionally narrower laciniae overlie thallus centre). Lower Surface: Present, black (dull, smooth, flat); attached by holdfasts (adnate); rhizinate (slender, 0.3-0.5 mm long); rhizines sparse or moderately abundant, black, not branched.

Medulla: White.

Reproduction Strategy: Only known as sterile, asexually reproducing form (not seen).

Conidiomata: Absent resp. not observed (not seen).

Secondary Metabolites: Present; 4-O-demethylbarbatic acid, barbatic acid, diffractaic acid (diffractaic acid (major), other secondary metabolite: 3-alpha-hydroxybarbatic acid (trace)), and usnic acid.

Spot Tests: Cortex: KC – medulla: K –, C –, KC –, PD –.

UV-Fluorescence: Upper thallus surface – (negative).
