Ecology: Biotroph; lichenized; terricolous (or rarely on rock); growing under conditions which are dry (in arid inland W.A., S.A., N.T. and Qld.).

Thallus: Foliose, subdivided into main parts, irregular, lobed; lobes elongate (subirregular to sublinear-elongate), imbricate (sometimes); branches applanate (moderately flattened); separate thallus parts 1-2-(3) mm wide. Thallus Size and Differentiation: 4-5-(7) cm in diameter. Upper Surface: Yellow (pale yellow to yellowish green, often black-margined towards apices), matt or glossy (shiny) (towards apices), rough (slightly rugulose); immaculate; isidiate (dense); isidia cylindrical (robust, epicorticate and ultimately inflated at apices, becoming erumpent), ramified (exentively branched), coralloid (or +/- flattened); not sorediate; lobulate (sometimes developing laciniae towards thallus centre). Lower Surface: Present, brown (pale brown, darker towards lobes apices); attached by holdfasts (adnate); rhizinate; rhizines sparse or moderately abundant, brown (concolorous with lower surface), not branched.

Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages (only immature apothecia observed). Ascocarps: Apothecioid (subpedicellate), up to 1 mm in diam.. Margin: Distinct (thick, involute); isidiate.

Conidiomata: Absent resp. not observed.

Secondary Metabolites: Present; throughout the thallus medulla, norlobaridone and usnic acid (other secondary metabolites: constipatic acid, protoconstipatic acid, +/- loxodin, +/- scabrosin 4-acetate 4´-butyrate, +/- scabrosin 4-acetate 4´hexanoate, +/- scabrosin 4,4´-dibutyrate and +/- scabrosin 4,4´-diacetate (trace)).

Spot Tests: Cortex: KC – medulla: K –, C –, KC + pink (rose), PD –.

UV-Fluorescence: Upper thallus surface – (negative).
