Ecology: Biotroph; lichenized; terricolous (or debris); growing under conditions which are dry (in arid shrubland).

Thallus: Foliose, subdivided into main parts, isotomic-dichotomous (subdichotomously to subirregularly branched), lobed; lobes elongate (sublinear-elongate), imbricate; separate thallus parts 1-2 mm wide. Thallus Size and Differentiation: 3-5 cm in diameter. Upper Surface: Yellow (to pale yellow-green, darkening to olive-green), matt, smooth (at marginal lobes); immaculate; not isidate; not sorediate; lobulate. Lower Surface: Present (canaliculate), brown (to pale tan); rhizinate; rhizines moderately abundant, brown (concolorous to lower surface or darkening), not branched.

Medulla: White.

Reproduction Strategy: Only known as sterile, asexually reproducing form.

Conidiomata: Absent resp. not observed.

Secondary Metabolites: Present; throughout the thallus medulla, consalazinic acid, norstictic acid (norstictic and protocetraric acid in traces), protocetraric acid, salazinic acid, and usnic acid.

Spot Tests: Cortex: KC – medulla: K + yellow changing to red, C –, PD + orange (intense yellow-orange).

UV-Fluorescence: Upper thallus surface – (negative).
