Lower Surface: Present, black or pale brown, black in the centre, pale brown along the margin; attached by holdfasts (true rhizines); rhizinate (centrally); rhizines sparse, black, not branched.
Upper Cortex: Present; eucortical; epicortex present; porous. Medulla: White, loose; iodine reaction in Lugol's solution negative (with Cetraria-type lichenan).
Reproduction Strategy: Only known as sterile, asexually reproducing form (not seen).
