Thallus: Areolate (primarily areolate) (areoles smooth or minutely rugose, effigurate or subsquamulose, often +/- overlapping; marginal squamules 0.2-0.4 mm wide and 0.04-0.15(-0.2) mm thick, contorted, sometimes in irregular, knotted clusters, often sterile), subsquamulose. Upper Surface: White or brownish yellow, convex (+/-).
