Biogeography: Colline. Continent: Africa (RSA) and Australasia (continental Australia).

Ecology: Biotroph; lichenized; endosubstratic or episubstratic; substrate non-calciferous.

Thallus: Not subdivided parts, areolate (primarily areolate) or granular, continuous throughout; lobes angular at the front; separate thallus parts 0-.6 mm thick. Thallus Size and Differentiation: Large; main branches basally not constricted. Thallus Outline: Margin concolorous the thallus centre. Upper Surface: Verrucose, white or brown (beige), plane; not sorediate; without thalloconidia thalloconidia.

Medulla: Iodine reaction in Lugol's solution negative.

Ascocarps: Soon sessile, not constricted or slightly constricted at the base, 25-120 per cm², .4-.9-(2.3) mm in diam.. Margin: Not flexuose or slightly flexuose, persistent or excluded, 40-140 µm wide, epruinose. Disk: Plane to weakly convex, black, epruinose, pruina scarce, without an umbo. Exciple: Hyphae radiating outwards; 3.5-4.2 µm wide; grey or brown; not inspersed with crystals or inspersed with crystals? Epithecium: Apical cells olive, cell pigment reacting with 10% HCl (in H2O). Hymenium: 55-90 µm high; white or pale green; iodine reaction: Lugol’s positive. Subhymenium: 14-35 µm high; white. Hypothecium: Brown or dark brown.

Ascospores: Ellipsoid, (9)-11.8-14-(20) µm long, (4.5)-5.3-7.6-(8) µm wide; wall not ornamented.

Conidia: (6)-7.5-9.5-(11) µm long.

Secondary Metabolites: Not detected or present, confluentic acid, 2'-O-methylmicrophyllinic acid (minor), or 2'-O-methylperlatolic acid (minor).
