Ecology: Biotroph; lichenized; episubstratic; substrate non-calciferous.
Thallus: Areolate (primarily areolate), subsquamulose, continuous throughout @EXCL@ dispersed along the periphery, continuous in the centre; lobes angular @EXCL@ rounded at the front; separate thallus parts.4-1.5 mm thick. Thallus Size and Differentiation: Small; main branches basally not constricted to basally constricted. Upper Surface: Brownish yellow to brown, convoluted, convex; not sorediate; without thalloconidia thalloconidia.
Upper Cortex: Epicortex present. Medulla: Iodine reaction in Lugol's solution negative.
Ascocarps: Soon sessile, slightly constricted to strongly constricted at the base, 3-80 per cm², .8-1.4-(1.8) mm in diam.. Margin: Not flexuose to slightly flexuose to strongly flexuose, persistent to excluded, 50-80 µm wide, epruinose. Disk: Plane to weakly convex to strongly convex, black, epruinose, pruina scarce, without an umbo. Exciple: Hyphae radiating outwards; 3.5-5 µm wide; grey; inspersed with crystals. Epithecium: Apical cells olive, cell pigment reacting with 10% HCl (in H2O). Hymenium: 60-80 µm high; white; iodine reaction: Lugols positive. Subhymenium: 30-65 µm high; white. Hypothecium: Brownish yellow.
Ascospores: Ellipsoid to oblong, (11)-13.5-15.3-(21) µm long, (4.5)-5.5-6.7-(9) µm wide; wall not ornamented.
Conidia: (9)-11.5-13-(16) µm long.
Secondary Metabolites: Present, schizopeltic acid to gyrophoric acid to lecanoric acid.
