Type Information: Protologue: Filson R., Muelleria 3(1): 16-18 (1974); type specimen label data: Antarctica, Wilkes Land, Windmill Islands, Western side of Haupt nunataks, 3 January 1970, R. Anderson (MEL-1012035).

Taxonomic Literature: Taxonomic notes: Most likely a "stictic acid chemotype" of Lecidea cancriformis. Inoue M., Nankyoku Shiryo (Nation. Inst. Polar Res., Tokyo) 35(3): 277 (1991).

Biogeography: Alpine. Continent: Antarctica (Wilkes Land).

Ecology: Biotroph; lichenized; endosubstratic or episubstratic; substrate non-calciferous.

Thallus: Not subdivided parts, granular, continuous throughout, dispersed along the periphery, continuous in the centre, or dispersed throughout and distinctly seperate; lobes angular at the front; separate thallus parts 0-.25 mm thick. Thallus Size and Differentiation: Large; main branches basally not constricted. Thallus Outline: Margin concolorous the thallus centre. Upper Surface: White, lemon (citrine), brownish yellow, grey, or brown (pale beige), plane; not sorediate; without thalloconidia thalloconidia.

Medulla: Iodine reaction in Lugol's solution positive.

Ascocarps: Soon sessile, strongly constricted at the base, 20-40 per cm², .8-1-(1.3) mm in diam.. Margin: Not flexuose or slightly flexuose, persistent, 100-160 µm wide, epruinose. Disk: Plane, black, epruinose, without an umbo. Exciple: Grey. Epithecium: Apical cells green. Hymenium: 38-48 µm high; white; iodine reaction: Lugol’s positive. Subhymenium: 15-25 µm high; white. Hypothecium: Brownish yellow.

Ascospores: Oblong, (5)-9-10.5-(13.5) µm long, (3)-3.7-4-(5) µm wide; wall not ornamented.

Secondary Metabolites: Present, stictic acid.
