Nomenclature: Current taxonomic status: accepted. Taxonomic rank: species. Lecidella. Lecanoraceae Körb. (1855); Lecanorales.

Biogeography: Continent: Northern America.

Ecology: Biotroph; lichenized; corticolous.

Thallus: Crustose, not subdivided parts, rimose; separate thallus parts thin or very thick (0.2 - 1.2* mm). Thallus Outline: Soon disappearing or persistent; black. Upper Surface: Pale grey, pale green, or lemon (citrine), matt or weakly glossy (shiny).

Medulla: Iodine reaction in Lugol's solution negative.

Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Becoming adnate (sometimes) or soon sessile, slightly constricted or strongly constricted at the base. Margin: Lecideine/biatorine, persistent or excluded, distinct or indistinct. Disk: Plane or weakly convex, black, epruinose. Exciple: Carbonized; dark blue or dark green. Parathecium (proper excipulum): Brownish yellow. Amphithecium (thalline excipulum): Present. Epithecium: Apical cells not swollen or slightly swollen, green, dark green, or turquoise. Hymenium: White. Hypothecium: Brownish yellow.

Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, broadly ellipsoid or ovoid; septa absent; wall thick (not halonate), distinctly differentiated into primary and secondary wall (not halonate), not ornamented (not halonate).

Secondary Metabolites: 2,7-dichloro-6-O-methylnorlichexanthone or 2'-O-methylperlatolic acid.
