Ecology: Biotroph; lichenized; substrate non-calciferous.

Thallus: Crustose, subdivided into main parts, rimose or areolate (primarily areolate); separate thallus parts.2-.8 mm wide; thin (up to 0.2 mm). Thallus Size and Differentiation: Up to 3.5 cm long. Thallus Outline: Soon disappearing or persistent (only between two adjacent thalli, up to 0.2 mm wide); dark grey. Upper Surface: Pale orange or lemon (citrine) (to beige).

Upper Cortex: 5-10 % of thallus width.

Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Apothecioid, forming independently from the host thallus or mycelium (or apperently on substrate), soon sessile, slightly constricted at the base, moderately abundant, .4-.8 mm in diam.. Margin: Lecideine/biatorine, persistent (normally), distinct or indistinct. Disk: Plane or weakly convex, black, epruinose. Exciple: Not carbonized; black. Parathecium (proper excipulum): Nearly white or brownish yellow (rarely). Amphithecium (thalline excipulum): Present. Epithecium: Apical cells distinctly swollen (up to 4 µm diam.). Hymenium: 50-70 µm high; white; oil inspersed. Interascal Hyphae: Scarcely branched or distinctly branched (sometimes, if damaged ?), not or scarcely anastomosed. Hypothecium: White or pale brownish yellow.

Ascospores: Ellipsoid or ovoid, 11-14 µm long, 5-7 µm wide; septa absent.

Conidiomata: Present; immersed.

Pycnidia: Globular. Conidia: Filiform; 20-25 µm long, 1 µm wide.
