Thallus: Rimose or areolate (primarily areolate), bullate; separate thallus parts thin or thick. Thallus Outline: Lobed or arachnoid; white. Upper Surface: Verrucose or verruculose, lemon (citrine), orange, or pale grey, matt or glossy (shiny), smooth or rough; epruinose; not sorediate.
Upper Cortex: Gelatinized.
Ascocarps: Strongly constricted at the base. Margin: Lecanorine, smooth, not flexuose, excluded, indistinct to distinct, concolourous with the surrounding thallus; without a thin rim between disk and thalline margin. Disk: Weakly convex, brown, pruina abundant. Parathecium (proper excipulum): White, dissolving in 10% KOH. Amphithecium (thalline excipulum): Present; crystals small, not dissolving in 10% KOH; photobiont abundant. Amphithecial Cortex: Present, distinctly developed, eucortical, (10)-15-20-25 µm wide, basally widened, 20-35-50 µm wide at the base; inspersed with oil droplets. Episamma: Soluble in KOH. Epithecium: Apical cells slightly swollen, hyaline or dark brown, soluble in 10% KOH. Hymenium: Not inspers. Hypothecium: White; not inspers.
Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, (9)-9.5-11.5-13.5-(14) µm long, 6-6.7-7.5 µm wide; wall thin, not ornamented.
Secondary Metabolites: Atranorin, roccellic acid, sordidone, and thiophanic acid (= 2,4,5,7-tetrachloronorlichexanthone), of the following substance class(es): orcinol depsides, xanthones, (higher) aliphatic acids, and chromones.
