Ecology: Corticolous.

Thallus: Not subdivided parts, areolate (primarily areolate); separate thallus parts thin. Thallus Outline: Indistinct; black. Upper Surface: Lemon (citrine), matt, smooth; epruinose; not sorediate.

Upper Cortex: Gelatinized.

Ascocarps: Soon sessile. Margin: Lecanorine, verrucose or verruculose, smooth, not flexuose or slightly flexuose, persistent, indistinct to distinct, brighter than the surrounding thallus; without a thin rim between disk and thalline margin. Disk: Plane, brownish yellow, epruinose, pruina scarce. Parathecium (proper excipulum): White, dissolving in 10% KOH. Amphithecium (thalline excipulum): Present; crystals dissolving in 10% KOH; photobiont abundant. Amphithecial Cortex: Present, distinctly developed, eucortical, (20)-25-30-35-(40) µm wide, basally widened, 30-35-40 µm wide at the base; inspersed with oil droplets. Episamma: Soluble in KOH. Epithecium: Apical cells not swollen, hyaline, brownish red, or dark brown, soluble in 10% KOH. Hymenium: Not inspers. Hypothecium: White or brownish yellow; not inspers.

Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, ellipsoid or broadly ellipsoid, 12-14.2-16.5-(17) µm long, 7-8.2-9.5 µm wide; wall thin, not ornamented.

Secondary Metabolites: 2'-O-methylperlatolic acid, arthothelin (2,4,5-trichloronorlichexanthone), atranorin, isoarthothelin (= 2,5,7-trichloronorlichexanthone), thiophanic acid (= 2,4,5,7-tetrachloronorlichexanthone), and usnic acid, of the following substance class(es): orcinol depsides, xanthones, and dibenzofurans [and usnic acids].
