Ecology: Corticolous.

Thallus: Areolate (primarily areolate); separate thallus parts thin. Thallus Outline: Indistinct; black. Upper Surface: Verrucose or verruculose, lemon (citrine) or pale grey, matt, smooth; epruinose; not sorediate.

Ascocarps: Soon sessile. Margin: Lecanorine, verruculose, smooth, not flexuose, persistent, indistinct or prominent, concolourous with the surrounding thallus; without a thin rim between disk and thalline margin. Disk: Plane, brownish red, epruinose. Parathecium (proper excipulum): White, not inspersed with crystals. Amphithecium (thalline excipulum): Present; crystals dissolving in 10% KOH; photobiont abundant. Amphithecial Cortex: Present, indistinct, eucortical, 10-12.5-15 µm wide, not basally widened, 10-12.5-15 µm wide at the base; inspersed with oil droplets. Episamma: Soluble in KOH. Epithecium: Apical cells not swollen or slightly swollen, hyaline, brownish red, or dark brown, soluble in 10% KOH. Hymenium: Not inspers. Hypothecium: Orange or brownish red; not inspers.

Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, (9)-10-11-12.5-(13) µm long, (5)-6-6.8-7.5-(8) µm wide; wall thin, not ornamented.

Conidiomata: Immersed.

Pycnidia: Cerebriform. Conidiophores: Vobis-type II. Conidia: Filiform; 14-15.5-17 µm long.

Secondary Metabolites: Atranorin, boryquinone, protoconstipatic acid, and skyrin, of the following substance class(es): orcinol depsides, (higher) aliphatic acids, and (anthra-)quinones.
