Thallus: Rimose or areolate (primarily areolate); separate thallus parts thin. Thallus Outline: Indistinct; soon disappearing; white. Upper Surface: Verrucose or verruculose, lemon (citrine), pale grey, or pale green, matt or glossy (shiny), smooth; epruinose; not sorediate.

Ascocarps: Soon sessile, not constricted at the base. Margin: Lecideine/biatorine, smooth, not flexuose or slightly flexuose, persistent or excluded, indistinct or prominent, brighter than the surrounding thallus; without a thin rim between disk and thalline margin. Disk: Plane to weakly convex, brownish yellow, epruinose, pruina scarce. Exciple: Not carbonized. Parathecium (proper excipulum): White, dissolving in 10% KOH. Amphithecium (thalline excipulum): Present; crystals dissolving in 10% KOH; photobiont absent. Amphithecial Cortex: Absent. Episamma: Soluble in KOH. Epithecium: Apical cells not swollen or slightly swollen, hyaline or brownish red, soluble in 10% KOH. Hymenium: Not inspers. Hypothecium: White or brownish yellow; not inspers.

Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, ellipsoid or broadly ellipsoid, (13)-14-16.5-19-(20) µm long, 9-10.5-12 µm wide; wall thin, not ornamented.

Pycnidia: Cerebriform. Conidiophores: Vobis-type II. Conidia: Filiform.

Secondary Metabolites: Atranorin and thiophanic acid (= 2,4,5,7-tetrachloronorlichexanthone), of the following substance class(es): orcinol depsides and xanthones.

Spot Tests: Upper surface: C + orange, PD –.
