Thallus: Not subdivided parts, areolate (primarily areolate); separate thallus parts thin. Thallus Outline: Indistinct; soon disappearing; black. Upper Surface: Lemon (citrine) or orange, matt, smooth; epruinose; not sorediate.
Ascocarps: Becoming adnate to soon sessile. Margin: Lecanorine, verrucose, verruculose, or crenulate, smooth, not flexuose, persistent or excluded, indistinct to distinct, concolourous with the surrounding thallus; without a thin rim between disk and thalline margin. Disk: Plane, brownish red or brown, epruinose. Parathecium (proper excipulum): White, dissolving in 10% KOH. Amphithecium (thalline excipulum): Present; crystals dissolving in 10% KOH; photobiont abundant. Amphithecial Cortex: Present, indistinct, eucortical, (14)-15-17.5-20-(23) µm wide, not basally widened, 15-17.5-20-(23) µm wide at the base; inspersed with oil droplets. Episamma: Soluble in KOH. Epithecium: Apical cells slightly swollen, brownish red, insoluble in 10% KOH. Hymenium: Not inspers. Hypothecium: White; not inspers.
Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, broadly ellipsoid, (11)-11.5-13-16 µm long, 7-7.8-8.5-(9) µm wide; wall thick, distinctly differentiated into primary and secondary wall, not ornamented.
Secondary Metabolites: Atranorin and hopane-6a,22-diol, of the following substance class(es): orcinol depsides, (tri-)terpenoids, and (higher) aliphatic acids.
