Thallus: Not subdivided parts, areolate (primarily areolate); separate thallus parts thin. Thallus Outline: Arachnoid or fimbriate; white. Upper Surface: Verruculose, lemon (citrine) or grey, matt, smooth; epruinose; sorediate; soralia (.2)-.25-.6-1 mm in diam., yellow or grey, isolated, not confluent with other soralia, soredia coarse, 40-60-75-(80) µm in diam..

Upper Cortex: Gelatinized.

Ascocarps: Soon sessile. Margin: Lecanorine, smooth, not flexuose, persistent, indistinct to distinct, concolourous with the surrounding thallus; without a thin rim between disk and thalline margin. Disk: Plane, brownish red, epruinose. Parathecium (proper excipulum): White, dissolving in 10% KOH. Amphithecium (thalline excipulum): Present; crystals small, abundant, dissolving in 10% KOH; photobiont abundant. Amphithecial Cortex: Present, indistinct or distinctly developed, eucortical, (10)-15-20-25 µm wide, not basally widened or basally widened, 25-35-40-(45) µm wide at the base; inspersed with oil droplets. Episamma: Without episamma. Epithecium: Apical cells not swollen or slightly swollen, brownish red, insoluble in 10% KOH. Hymenium: Not inspers. Hypothecium: White; not inspers.

Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, ellipsoid or broadly ellipsoid, 10.5-14-16.5 µm long, (5)-5.5-7.5-8.5 µm wide; wall thin, not ornamented.

Secondary Metabolites: Atranorin, of the following substance class(es): orcinol depsides and (tri-)terpenoids.
