Ascocarps: Strongly constricted at the base. Margin: Lecanorine, smooth, not flexuose or slightly flexuose, persistent, indistinct to prominent, concolourous with the surrounding thallus; without a thin rim between disk and thalline margin. Disk: Plane, brownish red, epruinose. Parathecium (proper excipulum): White, not inspersed with crystals. Amphithecium (thalline excipulum): Present; crystals small, abundant, dissolving in 10% KOH; photobiont abundant. Amphithecial Cortex: Present, distinctly developed, eucortical, (25)-30-30-40-(45) µm wide, basally widened, (30)-40-70-90-(100) µm wide at the base; inspersed with oil droplets. Episamma: Without episamma. Epithecium: Apical cells slightly swollen, brownish red, insoluble in 10% KOH. Hymenium: Not inspers or oil inspersed. Hypothecium: White; not inspers.
Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, 12-16.5-19.5-(20) µm long, 6.5-8.5-10.5-(11) µm wide; wall thick, distinctly differentiated into primary and secondary wall, not ornamented.
Conidiomata: Immersed.
Pycnidia: Cerebriform or ovoid. Conidiophores: Vobis-type II or Vobis-type III. Conidia: Filiform.
Secondary Metabolites: Atranorin, of the following substance class(es): orcinol depsides, (tri-)terpenoids, and (higher) aliphatic acids.
