Upper Surface: Grey (with irregularly shaped pale whitish or yellowish areas (pseudocyphellae or maculae in the broad sense), especially toward lobe tips), grey-yellow, lime green, or olive, matt, smooth or slightly rough (often); special structures present: (pseudocyphellae or maculae in the broad sense); not isidate; not sorediate.
Upper Cortex: Present (25-45 µm thick).
Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Apothecioid, irregular, forming independently from the host thallus or mycelium, becoming adnate or soon sessile, not constricted or slightly constricted at the base, .5-4 mm in diam.. Margin: Lecanorine, rough, slightly flexuose or strongly flexuose, persistent, prominent (up to 0.5 mm), concolourous with the surrounding thallus (usually strongly pale spotted). Disk: Excavate or plane, black (sometimes turning blackish or reddish due to parasites), red, or brownish yellow, pruinose, pruina abundant. Exciple: White or orange. Parathecium (proper excipulum): 25-90 µm wide. Amphithecium (thalline excipulum): Present. Amphithecial Cortex: 50 µm wide. Epithecium: Apical cells slightly swollen. Hymenium: White. Interascal Hyphae: Scarcely branched or distinctly branched. Hypothecium: Up to 500 µm high; white or orange.
Asci: Up to 50 µm long, 8-12 µm wide; dehiscence lecanoralean.
Ascospores: Spores 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, ovoid, or oblong, (8)-10-14-(16) µm long, 5-6-(8) µm wide; septa absent.
