Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Soon sessile, strongly constricted at the base, .15-.25 mm in diam.. Margin: Persistent, prominent. Disk: Plane to weakly convex, black, epruinose, without an umbo. Exciple: Black, green, white, brownish yellow, or violet. Parathecium (proper excipulum): White, dissolving in 10% KOH. Amphithecium (thalline excipulum): Present; 15 µm wide. Epithecium: Apical cells slightly swollen, black or dark brown. Hymenium: Pale brown or white. Hypothecium: Black, brown, brownish yellow, or violet.

Ascospores: Ellipsoid, oblong-obtuse, or oblong, 8-10.3-13 µm long, 3.5-4.4-6 µm wide; septa absent.
