Ecology: Biotroph (foliicolous); lichenized (foliicolous).

Thallus: Crustose, not subdivided parts; separate thallus parts thick (fairly). Thallus Size and Differentiation: Up to 3 cm long. Thallus Outline: Irregular. Upper Surface: Special structures present: (goniocysts and locally shrubby structures consisting of 0.15-0.2 mm long hyphae).

Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Apothecioid, forming independently from the host thallus or mycelium, strongly constricted at the base, .7-1 mm in diam.. Margin: Distinct. Disk: Plane, red (orange-). Parathecium (proper excipulum): Nearly white. Epithecium: Apical cells distinctly swollen. Hymenium: 50 µm high; white. Interascal Hyphae: Distinctly branched (apically often dichotomously). Hypothecium: Pale brown.

Asci: Dehiscence lecanoralean.

Ascospores: c. 8 (often not mature) per ascus, oval (spindle-shaped), 12-16 µm long, 2 µm wide; septa present or absent (1 septum).
