Ascocarps: Apothecioid, orbicular, forming all across the thallus surface, soon sessile. Margin: Distinct to prominent; external filaments absent. Exciple: Brown, white, or violet. Periphyses: Absent. Epithecium: Apical cells black, brown, olive, or bluish red (= reddish blue, incl. violet, purple). Interascal Hyphae: Present, scarcely branched, not or scarcely anastomosed. Hypothecium: Brown, white, or violet.

Asci: Tholus thickened, amyloid, entirely amyloid throughout; dehiscence lecanoralean.

Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, filiform, 32-80 µm long, 2.5-6 µm wide, aciculate; septa absent or present; transversally septate, 1-7-transversally septate; wall thin or thick, distinctly differentiated into primary and secondary wall, not thickened at the septum, hyaline, in Lugol's Solution negative, wall not ornamented.

Conidiomata: Absent resp. not observed or present; pycnidial; sessile, formed all accross the thallus surface.

Conidiogeneous Cells: Apical. Conidia: Bacilliform.

Secondary Metabolites: Not detected or present, of the following substance class(es): ß-orcinol depsides.
