Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Apothecioid or perithecioid, orbicular, becoming adnate. Wall: Not carbonized or carbonized around the ostiole, lacking a clypeus, not fused. Margin: Distinct; external filaments absent (exceptionally with few scattered, minuscule hair-like projections). Exciple: Black or brownish yellow. Periphyses: Present. Epithecium: Apical cells hyaline. Hymenium: Iodine reaction: Lugol’s negative, not hemiamyloid. Interascal Hyphae: Present, scarcely branched, not or scarcely anastomosed. Hypothecium: White, brownish yellow, or brown.

Asci: Tholus thickened, not amyloid; dehiscence unitunicate; exoascus not amyloid or euamyloid, not hemiamyloid.

Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, broadly ellipsoid, ovoid, or fusiform, (9)-12-20-(23.5) µm long, (3)-3.5-7-(8.7) µm wide, obtuse or aciculate; septa present; transversally septate (rarely submuriform), 1-3-8-(9)-transversally septate; wall thin, not thickened at the septum, not constricted where the septum meets the spore wall or laterally constricted where the septum meets the spore wall, hyaline, in Lugol's Solution negative, wall not ornamented.

Conidiomata: Absent resp. not observed.
