Reproduction Strategy: Only known as sterile, asexually reproducing form or with sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Apothecioid, orbicular, forming all across the thallus surface, soon sessile. Margin: Indistinct to prominent; external filaments absent. Exciple: White, brownish yellow, or violet. Periphyses: Absent. Epithecium: Apical cells black, brown, green, brownish yellow, or olive. Interascal Hyphae: Present, scarcely branched, distinctly anastomosed. Hypothecium: White, brownish yellow, or violet.

Asci: Tholus thickened, amyloid, entirely amyloid throughout; dehiscence lecanoralean.

Ascospores: 1–2 to c. 4 per ascus, ellipsoid, oblong, or oblong-obtuse, 25-100 µm long, 15-45 µm wide, obtuse; septa absent; wall thick, distinctly differentiated into primary and secondary wall, not thickened at the septum, hyaline, in Lugol's Solution negative, wall not ornamented.

Conidiomata: Absent resp. not observed or present; pycnidial; immersed, formed all accross the thallus surface.

Conidia: Bacilliform.

Secondary Metabolites: Present, of the following substance class(es): orcinol depsides, ß-orcinol depsides, ß-orcinol depsidones, (higher) aliphatic acids, (anthra-)quinones, and dibenzofurans [and usnic acids].
