Type Information: Type: Lichenopyrenis galligena Calat., Sanz & Aptroot.

Taxonomic Literature: Calatayud, V., Sanz, M.J. & Aptroot, A., Mycol. Res. 105: 634-637 (2001).

Ecology: Biotroph; lichenicolous; substrate non-calciferous.

Lichen Photobionts: Primary photobiont absent. Secondary photobiont absent.

Thallus: Indistinct (forming galls on the host).

Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Perithecioid, orbicular, becoming adnate. Wall: Carbonized only in parts, not fused. Margin: Prominent; external filaments absent. Exciple: Black (to dark brown). Periphyses: Absent. Epithecium: Apical cells hyaline. Hymenium: Iodine reaction: Lugol’s negative, not hemiamyloid. Interascal Hyphae: Present, scarcely branched, not or scarcely anastomosed. Hypothecium: White.

Asci: Tholus not thickened, not amyloid; ocular chamber indistinct; dehiscence bitunicate (fissitunicate); exoascus not amyloid, not hemiamyloid.

Conidiomata: Present; pycnidial; immersed, formed all accross the thallus surface (in galls together with perithecia).

Conidia: Ellipsoid or lageniform; microconidial; up to 0-septate; cell wall hyaline.

Secondary Metabolites: Not detected.
