Ecology: Biotroph; lichenized; bryophytic or corticolous.

Lichen Photobionts: Primary photobiont present; chlorococcal. Secondary photobiont absent.

Thallus: Crustose, squamulose. Thallus Outline: Soon disappearing. Upper Surface: Grey, brown, or white; special structures absent. Lower Surface: Attached by the whole lower surface; special structures absent.

Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Apothecioid, orbicular, soon sessile to substipitate. Wall: Carbonized only in parts. Margin: Distinct to prominent; external filaments absent. Exciple: Black or brown. Periphyses: Absent. Epithecium: Apical cells brown. Interascal Hyphae: Present, scarcely branched, not or scarcely anastomosed. Hypothecium: Black, yellow, or brown.

Asci: Tholus thickened, amyloid, with non-amyloid wide axial body and divergent amyloid flanks towards apex; ocular chamber broad; dehiscence lecanoralean.

Ascospores: c. 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, 17-20-22 µm long, 7-9-10 µm wide, obtuse; septa present; transversally septate, 1-transversally septate, formed by the proper spore wall; wall thin, not thickened at the septum (wall subapical weakly thickened) or thickened at the septum, not constricted where the septum meets the spore wall, dark brown or middle brown, in Lugol's Solution negative, wall not ornamented or ornamented.

Conidiomata: Absent resp. not observed.

Secondary Metabolites: Present, of the following substance class(es): ß-orcinol depsidones.
