Margin: Prominent; external filaments absent. Exciple: Black, brownish yellow, or brown. Periphyses: Absent. Epithecium: Apical cells hyaline, brownish yellow, or brown. Hymenium: Iodine reaction: Lugol’s negative, hemiamyloid. Interascal Hyphae: Present, scarcely branched to distinctly branched, not or scarcely anastomosed to distinctly anastomosed. Hypothecium: White, brownish yellow, or brown.

Asci: Tholus thickened, not amyloid; dehiscence unitunicate; exoascus euamyloid, hemiamyloid.

Ascospores: c. 4 to c. 8 or 16-32 to more than 32 per ascus, ellipsoid, broadly ellipsoid, or oblong, 4-37 µm long, 2-14 µm wide, obtuse or aciculate; septa absent or present; transversally septate or both transversally and longitudinally, 1-7-transversally septate, formed by the proper spore wall; wall thin or thick, distinctly differentiated into primary and secondary wall, not thickened at the septum, laterally constricted where the septum meets the spore wall, hyaline or pale brown to middle brown or dark brown, in Lugol's Solution negative, wall not ornamented or ornamented.

Conidiomata: Absent resp. not observed or present.
