Ecology: Biotroph; phytopathogenic; growing on leaves, mostly epiphyllous or amphigenous (effuse, forming thin, white patches, irregular, evanescent or subpersistent). Host or Phorophyte Taxonomy: Hydrangea bretschneideri; Hydrangea, Hydrangeaceae.
Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Cleistothecioid (chasmothecia dark brown), orbicular (depressed globose), scattered or gregarious, .087-.12-.137 mm in diam.. Margin: External filaments present (increasing in width from base towards the apex, or width subuniform throughout, but outline sometimes somewhat irregular, with constrictions, sometimes with swellings); mycelioid, uncinate or helicoid (at the apex), 50-137-(220) µm long, (5)-6.5-10-(9999) (IMPORT PROBLEM, please resolve following string manually: '13(-16)' (The current numeric data 9999 are inserted only as a placeholder and should be discarded)) µm in diameter, hyaline (in the upper part) or pigmented (in the lower half, yellowish to brown, paler upwards), few or numerous, 5-23 per mm², growing between the lower and upper hald of the ascocarp, flexuose (undulate), stiff and straight, or rarely geniculate (bent), smooth or verrucose (verruculose below), thin or thick (towards the base), not ramified, aseptate or septate (0-2(-3)-septate).
Asci: (3)-4-9-(11) asci per ascocarp, cylindrical (oval or oblong), not stipitate or indistinctly stipitate (short-stalked to sessile), 45-67 µm long, 26-50 µm wide; dehiscence unitunicate.
Ascospores: 12, c. 4, or c. 8 per ascus, spores (2)-5-7 per ascus, ellipsoid or ovoid, 15-26 µm long, 10-15 µm wide; septa absent.
Conidiomata: Present; hyphomycetous.
Conidiophores: Pseudoidium-type; not branched (erect, foot-cells cylindrical, followed by 1-2 cells); conidiophore cells 45-80 µm long, basal cells 14-29 µm long, 6.5-10 µm wide. Conidium Formation: Conidiogenous cells single. Conidia: Ellipsoid, doliiform, or cylindrical; macroconidial, not branched, 21-30-(35) µm long, 10-16-(22) µm wide; without distinct fibrosin body fibrosin bodies.
