Medulla: Iodine reaction in Lugol's solution positive (vegetative hyphae BCr+ blue violet); strongly reacting.

Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Perithecioid, globose or subglobose (oblong), forming inside the thallus or mycelium of the host (also on the thalline margin or sometimes on the thallus of Lecanora subcarpinea), within the ascocarp margin of the host or within the ascocarp disks of the host, becoming adnate to soon sessile, moderately abundant, 45-74 µm wide, 50-90 µm high, with a black surface. Wall: Not carbonized. Margin: Black, homogenously pigmented, 8-16 µm wide; external filaments absent. Exciple: Hyphae 1-4 µm wide, 3-9 µm long; not carbonized; brown (middle to dark). Periphyses: Present (6-12.5 x 2-3(3.5) µm). Hymenium: Iodine reaction: Lugol’s negative, not hemiamyloid. Interascal Hyphae: Present (paraphysoids), scarcely branched, not or scarcely anastomosed; cells 1-2 µm wide. Hypothecium: Brown (middle to dark).

Asci: Clavate or broadly cylindrical, not stipitate or indistinctly stipitate, 36-69 µm long, 11-17 µm wide; ocular chamber present; narrow; dehiscence bitunicate; exoascus not amyloid, not hemiamyloid; ascoplasm dextrinoid (endoascus BCr+ light violet).

Ascospores: Not uniseriate, c. 8 per ascus, spores 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, oblong-obtuse, or sub clavate, (10)-11-13.5-15-(16) µm long, (3)-4-4.7-5.5-(6) µm wide, obtuse; septa present; transversally septate, 1-transversally septate; lumina apically enlarged, constricted at the centre; wall thin, laterally constricted where the septum meets the spore wall, becoming pigmented, hyaline, in Lugol's Solution positive (epispore BCr+ light violet), wall not ornamented or ornamented (inner perispore slightly verrucose, sometimes light brown, forming a thin halo, outer perispore BCr+ light blue), distinctly halonate, i.e., with a thick mucilaginous sheath.

Conidiomata: Present.

Conidia: Cylindrical; 3-4.5 µm long, .5-1 µm wide.
