Ecology: Biotroph; lichenicolous; endosubstratic or episubstratic (vegetative hyphae also forming reticulum superficially and inside the ascomata of the host); growing on calciferous rock. Host or Phorophyte Taxonomy: Lecanora cenisia var. atrynea, L. swartzii.

Lichen Photobionts: Primary photobiont absent.

Thallus: Indistinct (vegetative hyphae brown, branched and anastomosed, torulose).

Medulla: Iodine reaction in Lugol's solution positive (vegetative hyphae BCr+ intense bluish violet); weakly reacting.

Reproduction Strategy: With sexual (and possible asexual) stages. Ascocarps: Perithecioid, globose or subglobose, within the ascocarp margin of the host or within the ascocarp disks of the host, not emerging, becoming adnate, abundant, 40-82 µm wide, 60-90 µm high, with a black surface. Wall: Not carbonized. Margin: Smooth, black, 5-15 µm wide; external filaments absent. Disk: Smooth. Exciple: Paraplectenchymatous; hyphae 3-7 µm wide; not carbonized; dark brown. Periphyses: Present. Hymenium: Iodine reaction: Lugol’s negative, not hemiamyloid. Interascal Hyphae: Present, scarcely branched, not or scarcely anastomosed. Hypothecium: Dark brown.

Asci: Clavate, not stipitate, distinctly stipitate, or indistinctly stipitate (shortly stipitate), 28-49 µm long, 11-15 µm wide; tholus not amyloid; ocular chamber present; dehiscence bitunicate; exoascus not amyloid, not hemiamyloid; ascoplasm dextrinoid (endoascus BCr+ violet).

Ascospores: Not uniseriate, c. 8 per ascus, spores 8 per ascus, ellipsoid, oblong-obtuse, or sub clavate, (8)-10-11.9-13-(14) µm long, (3)-4-4.4-5-(5.5) µm wide, obtuse; septa present; transversally septate, 1-transversally septate; lumina of equal size or apically enlarged, constricted at the centre; wall thin, not constricted where the septum meets the spore wall, becoming pigmented, hyaline or pale brown, in Lugol's Solution positive (epispore BCr+ pale violet, perispore BC- or BCr+ blue), wall not ornamented, distinctly halonate, i.e., with a thick mucilaginous sheath.

Conidiomata: Present (picnidia, globose, 19-48 x 18-25 µm,).

Conidia: Cylindrical; 2-3 µm long, .5-1 µm wide.

Secondary Metabolites: Not detected.
