Ecology: Terricolous, bryophytic, or lignicolous; growing sun-exposed.
Thallus: Crustose, squamulose; lobes ascending or horizontal; branches densely aggregated, scattered, loosely aggregated, or clustered; separate thallus parts 5-10 mm long; 2.5-5 mm wide. Primary Thallus: Persistent. Secondary Thallus: Present, arising from center of the primary thallus, of determinate growth; stipe 15-65 mm high, 1-4 mm wide, lime green (yellow), homogeneously coloured, corticate (at base), with longitudinally split or perforated (especially under and around cups) wall. Thallus Outline: Margin crenulate or dissected. Upper Surface: Areolated (where corticate at base), lime green, smooth; not sorediate. Lower Surface: White or orange (at base).
Lower Cortex: Absent or rarely present.
Ascocarps: Forming along the margin of scyphi, sparse, 1-3 mm in diam.. Disk: Weakly convex or strongly convex; red.
Conidiomata: Formed on margins of scyphi.
Secondary Metabolites: Squamatic acid or usnic acid, of the following substance class(es): ß-orcinol depsides.
Spot Tests: Upper surface: K (negative), C , + deep yellow, or + orange, PD .
UV-Fluorescence: Reaction colour: bright bluish white.
