Nomenclature: Current taxonomic status: accepted or basionymous. Taxonomic rank: species. Cladonia. Cladoniaceae Zenker (1827).

Taxonomic Literature: Taxonomic notes: Washington and Vancouver Island; not in QCI; extremely close to C. crispata and C. artuata, differing mainly in having more and narrower branches, no cups at all. Brodo I.M. & Ahti T., Can. J. Bot. 74: 1147-1180 (1996).

Ecology: Terricolous (on mossy slope or over rocks); growing sun-exposed.

Thallus: Crustose, squamulose; lobes ascending; branches loosely aggregated, clustered, scattered, or densely aggregated; separate thallus parts 1-2 mm long; .5-1.5 mm wide. Primary Thallus: Evanescent or persistent. Secondary Thallus: Present, of indeterminate growth; stipe 30-50 mm high, .3-1.5 mm wide, lime green or brown (greyish to pale yellow-green (122-120), greenish yellow (104) to yellowish white (92)), mottled or tainted brown, corticate, with intact wall. Thallus Outline: Margin dissected. Upper Surface: Verruculose or somewhat areolated, lime green (discoloured to a pale or deep yellow), smooth; not sorediate. Lower Surface: White or brown (at base).

Lower Cortex: Absent.

Reproduction Strategy: Only known as sterile, asexually reproducing form. Ascocarps: Forming apical at the tip of branches or stipes, sparse. Disk: Brown.

Conidiomata: Formed on podetia.

Secondary Metabolites: Thamnolic acid or barbatic acid (in traces), of the following substance class(es): ß-orcinol depsides.

Spot Tests: Upper surface: K + deep yellow, C –, PD + orange.
