Ecology: Terricolous, bryophytic, lignicolous, or corticolous; growing partially shaded or fully shaded.

Thallus: Crustose, squamulose; lobes elongate, ascending or horizontal; rounded at the front; branches loosely aggregated, scattered, or clustered; separate thallus parts 1-6 mm long; 1-6 mm wide. Primary Thallus: Persistent. Secondary Thallus: Present, arising from center of the primary thallus, of determinate growth; stipe 12-28 mm high, .5-1.5 mm wide, grey-green, olive, or brown (in decorticate areas), corticate (only at base of podetia) or not corticate, with intact wall. Thallus Outline: Margin entire or crenulate. Upper Surface: Grey-green or olive; not sorediate. Lower Surface: White.

Lower Cortex: Absent.

Ascocarps: Forming apical at the tip of branches or stipes or along the margin of scyphi, sparse, .3-.5 mm in diam.. Disk: Strongly convex; brown.

Conidiomata: Formed on podetia.

Secondary Metabolites: Fumarprotocetraric acid and protocetraric acid, of the following substance class(es): ß-orcinol depsidones.

Spot Tests: Upper surface: K – (negative), C –, PD + red.
